Hello Class!

Welcome to the OLLU Research Class Blog Site

This is a blog site that I have established for you to use in developing the Wiki and Research Project for this course.

You must log in (see the link to the right) in order to post or comment on this site. You must also register with WordPress using your OLLU email account. You should have received an invitation to join this blog through your university email account.

Adding Posts

It is fairly easy to figure out how to add posts and comments. I will need to upgrade your status so that you can author posts, and I can’t do that until you have signed on and registered with WordPress. Once you are registered and signed in, you will notice a tab at the top of the web page that says “New Post.” A drop down menu will appear with a list of all of the WordPress websites you are registered with. Please be sure that you pick the OLLURESEARCH site to put your post into. (If you have been in another class that has used this blog site, or if you created a blog of your own when you signed up for WordPress, your site will there as well.) Click there and you get a form to compose your post in. Links for recent posts will show up in the column on the right side of the web page.

Categories (Click here for a movie about categories)

You can also indicate the category that the post should be assigned to. Assigning a category will make it easy to find related posts. I have already created the following categories:

  • Class Business
  • Wiki Design
  • Research Project
  • Uncategorized

We should limit the number of categories we use.

Tags (Click here for a movie about tags)

Tags are a way of identifying more specific content that might be contained in a post. It is a good idea to have a limited number of categories, but to have many tags. Some posts may only have one unique tag in them.

Comments

In the bottom, right hand corner of each post, you will see a link to write a comment on an individual post. If no comments have been written it will let you know that as well. Links to recent comments will show up in the column on the right side of the web page.

Go, ahead. Put some posts up that are useful to your classmates, or just posts to practice the process. Comment on another person’s post.
